Passwordless authentication allows you to sign in securely without entering a password by using the Microsoft Authenticator app. This improves security and user experience.
Prerequisites
- Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your mobile device.
- Your account already added to the Authenticator app.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled for your account.
Steps to Enable Passwordless Sign-In
Step 1: Open Microsoft Authenticator App
Launch the app on your mobile device.

Step 2: Select Your Account
Tap the account you want to enable passwordless sign-in for.

Step 3: Enable Phone Sign-In
Tap Set up phone sign-in (or Enable passwordless sign-in) and follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 4: Approve Device Registration
Verify your identity using your current MFA method and approve the request to register your device for passwordless sign-in.

Step 5: Confirm Setup
Once enabled, your account will show Phone sign-in enabled under its settings.

How It Works
When signing in, choose Sign in with Microsoft Authenticator and approve the sign-in request on your mobile device instead of entering a password.
Troubleshooting
- Option Missing? Ensure your account has MFA enabled and is added to the Authenticator app.
- Error During Setup? Check that your device is registered in Azure AD and you have network connectivity.
